Ways to Donate

You can enrich the lives of everyone in your community by making a Planned Gift to the Niagara on the Lake Public Library. This page outlines the most common types of gifts you may choose to leave a lasting legacy.

These gifts are planned in advance and take into account your specific circumstances and needs. Your legal or financial advisor will be able to discuss these options with you in full and suggest the best approach for you and your family.

Through planned giving, you can provide a significant donation which is rewarding, suited to your financial situation, and very tax efficient.

When you are planning your will, you can direct a gift of money or a portion of your estate to NOTLPL.

You can make a gift by designating the NOTLPL as the beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF. The tax credits you generate with the charitable tax receipt will offset taxes which would otherwise be due.

Substantial gifts can be made by naming the NOTLPL as the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. Charitable tax receipts will be issued for the net cash surrender value and any future premiums you pay. Alternatively, if the policy simply names NOTLPL as beneficiary, the receipt will be issued to your estate.

The gift of publicly listed securities, such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds, offers tax relief in two areas - a charitable tax receipt for the market value of the donation, and elimination of a capital gains tax otherwise due.

You can establish an endowment fund as your long-term personal legacy–a “gift that keeps on giving.” The principal remains invested but the annual return, or a portion of the return, is used to support the work of the NOTLPL.

If you plan to make a gift, make sure that it reflects your wishes. Our full legal name must be used in your documents: Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library. Our Charitable Number is #89220 7440 RR0001

This information is for general purposes only. All donors should seek guidance from an experienced estate lawyer, their accountant and other financial professionals to ensure a gift is established in the most appropriate way.
