WiFi Hotspots Lending Program

Public Libraries play a vital role in providing Internet access to their communities. To address the needs of those who do not have access to high-speed internet services at home, Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library has introduced a new Wi-Fi hotspot lending program which allows cardholders to borrow a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to one week at a time.

Our Wi-Fi hotspots will provide unlimited, no-charge Internet access to Wi-Fi enabled devices through the Rogers cellular network. Up to fifteen devices can be connected at one time. While the goal is to provide all patrons with Internet access, service will be dependent on the availability of the cellular network in the area where the hotspot is being used. Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library cannot guarantee connectivity.

Terms of Use

Lending Period: 1 week

Holds: Yes

Renewals: Allowed only if there is not a waiting list

Eligibility: Any cardholder (18 years of age and older) in good standing

Service Coverage: Service is available across Canada within the Rogers cell phone coverage area. International service, including in the US, is unavailable. 

Usage fees: No usage fees and data is unlimited.

Pick up & return:  Wi-Fi hotspots must be picked up and returned to the library during opening hours from the service desk and returned directly to a staff member, who will ensure all device pieces have been returned in good condition. 

Overdue fees: $1 a day. If the device becomes overdue, the library will disable it until it is returned. 

Replacement fees: $200 for a lost or damaged device; $15 for a lost or damaged cord or carrying case; and a $7 processing fee in addition to the replacement cost for any lost or damaged items.

Privacy: Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library does not monitor, collect, or store data about users’ internet activity. All users must abide by Niagara-on-the-Lake Internet Access & Acceptable Use policy and understand there is no guarantee the hotspot Wi-Fi connection will be entirely private.

How to Use

1. Make sure the device is powered on

2. Tap Menu

3. Tap WiFi

4. Tap WiFi Name/Password

5. Navigate to WiFi on your device under Settings

6. Select the WiFi name that is displayed on the hotspot

7. Enter the password that is displayed on the hotspot

8. Congratulations, you are now connected!
